MTN Nigeria has on Sunday launched its 5G technology across the country.
According to the telecommunication giant website, the 5G is the fifth generation of wireless technology. With download speeds up to 10 times faster than its predecessor.
MTN added that 5G will reinvent how we use the internet and bring us to a new phase of technological advancement with never-before-seen innovations and applications.
As of the time of the launching, the telecommunication company listed Nokia, Xaaomi, Vivo, and Huawei as the only compatible phones.
“You can connect with the MTN 5G network in Nigeria on the following selected devices. Other compatible 5G phones are coming soon,” MTN said.
The attendees of the commercial launching that included important figures from the MTN leadership team as well as influential figures from related industries such as the media, ICT, and high-value MTN customers, got a first-hand look at the technology.
The pioneering feat comes more than nine months after the telecom firm and Mafab Communications Limited won a bid for the two slots available for the start of the spectrum services in the country.
Both firms had received permits to operate 5G services in the first week of May.
