Flood kills 1 wash away farmlands in Zaria

Ravaging floods killed one person and washed away many farmlands in the Maliki community, Zaria of Kaduna State.

The incident happened following a heavy downpour that lead to the collapse of Maliki-Kafin Mardani bridge in the late hours of Tuesday. 

Mutawakkilu Yusuf Rafin Yashi, Kakakin Yammacin Zazzau, while confirming the incident identified the dead person as Alhaji Auwal Balarabe. 

According to the traditional leader, the deceased was returning home from a business trip in Zaria.

The Kakakin Yammacin Zazzau confirmed that the corpse of deceased was discovered on Wednesday morning and buried according to Islamic rites.

The Maliki-Kafin Mardani bridge that links more than 20 communities in the western part of Zaria was submerged by water on Tuesday evening leading to its instant collapse.

Meanwhile, youths in the area have since embarked on the reconstruction of the collapsed bridge through communal efforts.

It could be recalled that several communities in Zaria and its environs recently experienced flooding, which led to the destruction of homes and the loss of farmlands.
