Ganduje, Bayero absent at Aminu Kano’s anniversary lecture

Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Emir Aminu Ado Bayero were conspicuously absent at the 20th annual symposium to mark the 39th memorial anniversary of the late Malam Aminu Kano.

The lecture held at Mambayya House Centre for Democratic Studies, Bayero University with the theme “Money in African Politics: The Nigerian Experience”.

In the program of event, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje was to serve as the chief host and special guest of honour was to give a remarks to the assembly, but when his turn came up, the oganizers said neither Ganduje nor his representative could be reached and their part had to be canceled.

In the same vein, Bayero who was invited as the Royal father couldn’t show up, and no apology was sent.

In his presentation, the guest speaker, professor Eghosa Emmanuel Osaghae, Director-General of Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Lagos, said Nigeria could only prosper if we could disengage from money politics.

The paper titled “Money in African Politics : The Nigerian Experience, noted with dismay that the monetisation of politics has been the bane of Nigerias growth and development.

He also said, this monetisation had no doubt, corrupted the Nigeria state in all aspect of human endeavour.

Two discussants, Professor Kamilu Sani Fage and Habu Muhammad equally said the monetization of politics in Nigeria has been a great source of concern to all those yearnings for the development of the country.
