The Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has ordered all his cabinet members holding non-elected position to undergo mandatory drug test by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

This was disclosed by the Senior Legislative Aide to Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, Mujahid Zaitawa, after his entourage visited the governor and commended him on his effort to ensure that drug addicts were not elected into offices in the upcoming local governments election.

Zaitawa in an exclusive interview with Sahelian Times said, “The screening process has already started with Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) and will move to all other offices of the civil servants in the state and all non-elected officials.”

He added that, “we will ensure that anybody that fails the mandatory drug test has to leave office. ”

“This is a momentum we will hold unto, up to the federal level. We are hopeful that by 2023, all political office contestants have undergone a mandatory drug test, including those contesting for the office of the President,” he said.

Mujahid thanked the Governor of Kano State and called on other governors to emulate the policy and implement it in their respective states.
