The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari, on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, has apologised for misinforming the public about the number of abducted Kankara schoolboys.

Shehu who is no new to controversies, Twitted that, “I apologize for the incorrect communication citing that only 10 students were kidnapped at the Science School, Kankara.”

He added that, “This communication of numbers was provided by persons that should ideally know. These numbers were seen to conflict with what was available at that time.”

Shehu further urged people to understand that the communication was in no way done to downplay the seriousness of the situation.

“Please accept my sincere apologies on this matter as we continue to move our great Nation Nigeria forward. Thank you,” Shehu added in his tweet.

Mallam Garba Shehu had previoulsy claimed that only 10 students were abducted in the Government Secondary School Kankara, Katsina State, against over 300 verified by the local authority.

His claim generated a furore in the social media with many people interpreting that as a deliberate attempt to downplay the seriousness of the heinous act.
