Honourable Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo of Akko Central Constituency of Gombe State has been sworn in as the new Speaker of the State’s House of Assembly.
The new Speaker, who until his election was the Chairman House Committee on Finance and Economic Planning.
He attended Ngarannam Primary School, Maiduguri from 1989-1994 and Brigadier Maimalari Day Secondary School from 1994-2000 before proceeding to Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri in 2002 where he obtained a Diploma in General Agriculture in 2004.
Hon. was also an alumni of University of Maiduguri, where he obtained a Bachelor Degree in Agric Economics in 2014 and is currently pursuing his M.Sc. Degree in Agricultural Economics at the University.
Before he was elected as a member to represent Akko Central in the state House of Assembly, he has worked in the banking industry, first with Guarantee Trust Bank PLC from June 2005 to June 2006 and Eco Bank Nigeria Limited from 2007-2018
The lawmakers also met with the Governor yesterday night to restate their commitment to working with the governor to move the state forward.
The new leadership thanked the governor for his non-interference in the assembly’s internal affairs.
On his part, the governor expressed his willingness to allow the house to resolve their internal issues amicably. He thanked the legislators for their maturity and pledged to support them in the conduct of their legislative responsibilities.
This followed the impeachment of the former speaker Hon Abubakar Sadiq Kurba in plenary session by 16 out of 24 members of the assembly.
Hon. Kurba was sacked over allegations of mismanagement and corruption.
The Majority Leader of the House Hon. Markus Samuel Winna has also been removed and replaced by Hon Ladan Yerima Ladan Gaule of Kaltungo East Constituency while Hon Yahaya Mohammed Kaka voluntarily vacated the seat of Deputy Chief Whip of the House for Mohammed Saidu of Deba Constituency.
