Governor Badaru’s Facebook critic sentenced for six months

A magistrate court sitting in Dutse, Jigawa state, has convicted one Sabiú Ibrahim Chamo and sentenced him to six months in prison for defaming the character of Governor Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar.

The Presiding Judge Batula Dauda, in her verdict, sentenced the accused to six months in a correctional center or twenty thousand naira fine and 20 strokes of cane as alternative.

Chamo made a post on his Facebook page where he maligned the character of the governor of Jigawa state.

The latter took him to court seeking for redress.
