Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has advised Nigerian Government to take his previous advice and pardon bandits that are ravaging many states for peace to reign in the affected states.

While reacting to the killing of three students of Greenfield University, Kaduna by bandits who abducted them from their school this week, Gumi said the incident had proved his earlier position that bandits were now at war with the Government.

Gumi was involved in the process that resulted the release of students abducted by gunmen in Katsina and Niger states.

He said he was helpless in the case of Kaduna State because the state government had not shown any readiness to negotiate with the bandits.

The Kaduna State based scholar, reiterated that the only way he could intervene as he did in Niger and Katsina states was for Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai to change his earlier stance against negotiation with bandits.

“The situation is becoming dire and I need the government’s support before I can do anything, and I think there is a great misunderstanding and poor reading of the situation on the ground. So, I’m really helpless; I don’t know what actually I can do as of now,” Gumi said.

Commenting on the students killing, he said it is very unfortunate and there is an ethnic war going on but he had been saying it that it is a war but the government refused to see it.

“You cannot predict the behaviour of people who are like that; this is the unfortunate thing and it is the common man that suffers. The way forward is for the government to listen to us, because those people are ready to listen to us. If the government will cooperate and listen to us, I think there will be peace but we are finding it difficult to get the government’s attention,” he added.

He however said there is a lot people can offer but they need the cooperation from Government’s side.
