Unknown gunmen have on Saturday evening shot and critically injured the Bauchi State Auditor General (AG), Alhaji Abdu Aliyu, in a failed attempt to abduct him.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Bauchi Command, DSP Ahmed Wakili, has confirmed that the incident happened around Kardam village of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area.

Although the AG has escaped with gunshot injuries, his 25-year-old son and a 50-year old man who were travelling with him were unfortunately kidnapped by the gunmen.

DSP Wakili also highlighted that the AG’s car appeared to have been trailed, on his way to his village in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, by the gunmen who opened fire on the vehicle and shot him at a closed range, after he refused their instruction to stop the car.

Sources have confirmed that the AG was initially rushed to the general hospital in Tafawa Balewa by passers-by, and later transferred to the trauma center in Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital.

The police said efforts are underway to rescue the victims and arrest perpetrators.
