A report from Kaduna State reveals that gunmen had attacked Kungi village in Birnin Gwari Local Government, in the early hours of today.

The gunmen that stormed the village kidnapped at least 30 people and killed one person during the operation.

However, Kaduna state government is yet to comment on the incident.

But a resident from the village, who preferred his name to be anonymous, told BBC that the gunmen ambushed the village and carried out house to house search to kidnap people.

He said they had killed one person who refused to follow them after they caught him.

The source also said the victims include males, females, and kids, including three of his grandchildren.

“My daughter born them, they’re part of the kidnapped victims,” he said.

“We are in a dire situation here in Birnin Gwari, but we submitted everything to Almighty God. The truth is that things are not well here,” he lamented.

He added that there are security personnel in the village but their presence is not stopping gunmen from invading the village.

He said at first they suspected that the gunmen were soldiers because of the kind of guns they were holding. But they later realized that they were bandits.

According to the source, Birnin Gwari now is full of internally displaced people, men and women, because of the incessant attacks by bandits in neighbouring villages.

Thousands of people are migrating from different villages of Chikun and Birnin Gwari local governments looking for asylum in Buruku village in Kaduna.

Recent attacks in those villages had claimed lives of several people, and many sustained different injuries.
