The Nigerian Army has confirmed that suspected gunmen have killed at least 11 soldiers while on their daily operation in Benue State.

In a statement released by Army spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Muhammed Yerima, said initially the troops were declared missing before their bodies were identified by a search and rescue team in Konshisha Local Government Area in the State.

“The troops comprising one officer and 10 soldiers were initially declared missing which prompted the deployment of a joint search and rescue team comprising NA troops and personnel of Operation Whirl Stroke,” Yerima said in the statement

He further said “The search and rescue team, unfortunately, found all the missing troops dead in Konshisha LGA of Benue State.”

Benue State is one of the states in Nigeria that’s facing attacks by criminals. Last month, the state Governor, Samuel Ortom was also attacked by suspected gunmen.
