Gunmen kill at least 15 in Sokoto, injure several others

A group of gunmen stormed Tanau village in Sabon Birni Local Government in Sokoto State and killed more than 15 people, and rustled their cows.

An eye witness told SAHELIAN TIMES that the incident happened at around 1am on Friday, when the gunmen stormed the village and started firing bullets sporadically, a situation that forced many people to ran for their dear lives.

“When they arrived they just started firing bullets randomly and started searching houses to bring out animals and some valuables,” an eye witness said.

He added that, “After they finished the operation, they ran away with what they stole but some youths in the village and and members of the vigilantes traced them; however, the gunmen hidden inside the bush ambushed them and killed many.”

Another source confirmed that, so far about 15 corpses have been recovered while the search continues. Several people have also been injured.

He said the deceased would be buried today according to Islamic rites, while those that sustained injuries had been taken to hospital for medical attention.

Tanau village and its environs in Sabon Birni Local Government have been experiencing series of attacks by bandits.
