Gunmen kill police officer, abduct Chinese contractor in Ekiti

Unknown gunmen have shot dead a police officer, and abducted the Chinese contractor handling the new Ado Ekiti – Iyin road, in Ekiti capital.

Ekiti state police spokesman Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the incident to newsmen on Friday, said that it occurred around 4:30 pm along the new Ado Ekiti-Iyin Ekiti road.

Mr Abutu, added that, one other person was shot at the scene of the incident.

“It is confirmed that a kidnapping incident occurred today at about 4:30 pm along new Iyin-Ekiti road,” Abutu said.

“During the incident, one civilian, an expatriate, was kidnapped, one shot, while one policeman was shot dead.

“Our operatives are already combing the bush for possible apprehension of the perpetrators.”

According to NAN, the police PRO noted that Babatunde Mobayo, the Ekiti commissioner of police, urged the public to remain calm in spite of the incident.

“He also enjoined them to avoid any form of apprehension as the command would do all within its powers to ensure freedom of the kidnapped expatriate and bring the culprits to book,” Abutu said.
