A recent report from Zamfara says a highly sought bandit in the state, Awwalun Dauda, has turned himself in to the authorities and repented from terrorism.

Zamfara State Commissioner for internal security and home affairs, Abubakar Muhammad Daura, confirmed this to newsmen.

He said Awwalun Dauda is among the gunmen who kidnapped more than 300 students of Government Secondary School Kankara, in Katsina state in December 2020.

Zamfara and Katsina are one of the northern states that are experiencing series of attacks from bandits and kidnappers in recent years.

In December last year, a gang of gunmen stormed a Secondary School in Kankara Local Government, Katsina state and kidnapped more than 300 students but later, security agencies rescued the students after what is believed to be negotiations with the abductors.
