How 11 family members lost their lives in a car accident along Kano – Zaria road

The Kano – Kaduna highway is one of the busiest routes in the North due to the strategic cities that are between it. After years of neglect, it is finally getting a facelift – although the reconstruction is causing a lot of accidents due to diversions and claiming a lot of lives, coupled with reckless drivers.

On Wednesday, 11 family members have perished in a ghastly car accident in Dakatsalle, on their way to Zaria, Kaduna State for a naming ceremony.

One of the family member told SAHELIAN TIMES that the family were on their way to Zaria to attend a naming ceremony of a daughter of one of the key members of the family.

“The accident happened in Dakatsalle when they were on their way to Zaria to attend naming ceremony of the daughter of our uncle”. Said Mujitapha Sani.

He added that “One of the survivors told me that their tyre got loose and detached from the car after hitting many potholes and from there, she blacked out”

Mujitapha further said “the people were 18 in the car 11 of them died at the spot while the remaining 7 sustained series of injuries including fractures and were rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention”

Mujitapha explained to SAHELIAN TIMES that the dead were six women and five children; four girls and one boy”

The deceased were since buried according to Islamic rites at Bachirawa cemetery behind abattoir.
