How 31 travellers were hacked to death in Jos

Innocent travelers plying Rukuba road met their deaths while heading back to the South West after attending an event on the Islamic New Year at Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Mosque in Bauchi State.

The corpses of the slain victims have been deposited at the morgue of the Plateau Specialist Hospital.

Sahelian Times had reported about the attack on travellers and has gathered that they were returning from a religious event in neighbouring Bauchi State, were attacked.

Gory images and videos of slain people have been circulating the internet in this latest incident.

Muhammad Ibrahim, one of the passengers, who escaped the attack, said they were in a convoy of five 18 seater buses when the attackers struck.

Ibrahim said the event held at Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, mosque, in Bauchi State.

“We ran into the armed gang at Gada-Biyu area of Jos North Local Government Area,” he said.

The spokesperson of the State Police Command, ASP Ubah Gabriel said security operatives had been deployed in the area.

Meanwhile the Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong has condemned the incident, warning troublemakers to desist.

He said his administration will not allow any form of lawlessness to disrupt the peace being enjoyed in the State.

He directed security agencies to identify and arrest the perpetrators while dominating the area to restore calm.

While commiserating with the families of those affected, the Governor assured all law-abiding citizens that security has been beefed up around the area as well as the entire metropolis to forestall further breach of the peace.

He reminded the citizens to remain vigilant and be security conscious in reporting suspicious persons and behaviour within their domains to enable law enforcement agencies respond appropriately.
