The hope of a bumper harvest of a Zamfara State farmer has been dashed after bandits assassinated the security guard in charge of the harvested product and set ablaze harvested maize grain.

In an interview with SAHELIAN TIMES, Kassim Sulaiman stated that he enlisted the help of at least 50 volunteers to harvest the maize grains he planted on his farm.

“I got a call that bandits had sacked the location where we dried the grain.”

“They murdered the person the community had hired to provide security for the grains and set fire to the drying grains,” he lamented.

According to Sulaiman, the incident occurred on October 21 in Zamfara State’s Magami District Gusau LGA.

SAHELIAN TIMES gathered that, most farmers in some local government areas of the state have fled their ancestral homes for fear of being attacked and killed by the bandits.

Apart from sacking farmers from their farms, houses and food banks have also been set ablaze, thereby threatening food supply across the country.
