The Managing Director of  Kano Consumer Protection Council (KCPC), Idris Bello-Dambazau has escaped from the hands of the operatives of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC).

Dambazau was reportedly escorted to his residence by the operatives of the PCACC to get his medication following his arrest.

In a press conference on Wednesday, PCACC chairman Mahmoud Balarabe, stated that the KCPC earlier invited Dambazau to respond to petitions of corruption allegations against him.

“He requested that he return home and get his medication, which I agreed to,” Balarabe explained.

The PCACC boss stated that Dambazau devised a plan to flee when he arrived at his Kano residence.

Balarabe said the anti-graft agency received many complaints of alleged corruption against the KCPC boss.

“We are mandated by law to invite any person when a petition is filed against him or her. This is to ensure that the person is given the opportunity to respond to the petition in the interest of justice and fair hearing,’’ he said.

Barrister  Bayo Ademorola the counsel to Dambazau accused the PCACC of detaining his client when he reported to the commission at about 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

He accused the commission of holding the Managing Director for up to 11 p.m. “despite the fact that he is fasting.”

Bayo however denied that his client had fled, insisting that he had been released by state anti-graft operatives.
