A court in Kano State on Tuesday heard the gory tale of how a 45-year old woman, Hauwa Ibrahim, allegedly killed her newborn grandchild with acid.
According to the prosecutor, Barrister Ahmed Muhammad, the defendant killed her grandson after realizing that the first wife to her son could not give birth to a male child while the second wife delivered a male child at her first birth.
He said that out of jealousy in favor of the first wife, Hauwa killed the male baby delivered by her son’s second wife, Badariyya Ibrahim.
Adding that the defendant used acid to kill the child when its mother went to toilet.
The defendant, who resides in Tugar Bala Ward of Bagwai LGA, was charged with murder, and has pleaded guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Haulatu Magaji Kankarofi, ordered the remand of the defendant at a correctional center and adjourned the case to October 4.
