The Managing Director of Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA), Baffa Babba Dan Agundi, has been dragged to court by a group of human right lawyers for allegedly using his fist to physically assault a 21-year-old tricycle rider, Mujitapha Isa, with heavy blows on his neck, head and chest causing grievous body harm.

Isa was allegedly severely beaten by Baffa until he blacked out and became unconscious.

Witnesses around the scene alleged that the KAROTA officials there present removed Isa’s clothing until he was rendered completely naked and his underwear was used to drain and wipe off the blood gushing out from his ear and mouth.

An Xray image exclusively obtained by SAHELIAN TIMES showed that the left shoulder the victim is dislocated as a result of the unlawful violence and beating meted on him by the MD of KAROTA personally.

SAHELIAN TIMES gathered that, on 25th February 2021 the victim was arrested by men and officers of the Kano Roads and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) for allegedly distributing fliers which purportedly incited tricycle riders in Kano State to protest the imposition of N100 tax with its attendant expenses.

Isa was arrested immediately after his arrest (which came 3 days after the said strike by tricycle riders), he was taken before the Managing Director (MD) of the KAROTA (Baffa Babba Dan-Agundi) at his KAROTA office where the same allegation against him was repeated before the MD.

The counsel to the victim, Barrister Abba Hikima, in an interview with SAHELIAN TIMES said that “Upon hearing the allegation, the MD became furious and enraged, whereupon he approached our client and began to physically batter and assault our client with heavy blows around sensitive parts of his body (head, neck and chest) with his fists”

Hikima, further added that “consequent upon the MD’s physical assault of him, he fell on the ground helplessly but the MD, aided by his men, violently and forcefully kicked our client’s head, chest and abdomen until blood began to gush out from client’s left ear and mouth.”

Barrister Hikima on Monday pleaded on behalf of his client that the Kano State Magistrate’s Court, Hon. A. B Wali Complex, to bring the MD may be brought to book for his criminality and recklessness, pursuant section 126 of the Administration of Criminal Court of law.
