Former Kano State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Wakili, has denied reports circulating on social media that he had died as a result of an accident.
Speaking in an interview with Hausa Service of BBC,the retired cop, said he’s not alive but hale and hearty.
“I don’t know where the news originated from. I don’t know the reason behind circulating the news, and I don’t know what they want to achieve,” he lamented.
Speaking further, Wakil noted that, “the story worried many people because I started receiving calls around 11pm to confirm the report.
He said, he got the story of his purported death from a prominent person who came across the fake news on social media.
“I have his number saved in my phone, so when I saw his call late in the night, I was shocked. I picked the call and said, ‘sir’. And the moment he heard my voice he just started saying, ‘Alhamdulillah’, “ he explained.
Wakili shot to limelight in Nigeria for his fight against drugs abuse and trafficking in Kano during his days as the Commissioner of Police in the state.
Muhammad Wakili retired in 2019 after the general elections and he’s currently special adviser on security matters to the Gombe state Governor.
