Governor Wike of Rivers state has again stressed the need to urgently restructure Nigeria.
The governor was heard reiterating this when the Moughzy U Tiv, the Socio Cultural body of Tiv people in Rivers State paid him a courtesy call in Port Harcourt on Friday.
Governor Wike pointed out that, urgent attention must be given to the restructuring of Nigeria to put to rest all coexistential misgivings and uncertainties holding the heterogeneous country back.
He said that, the Tiv people were ethnic minorities like ethnic groups in Rivers and other states in the Niger Delta area.
He explained that his rapid response during Benue crises, was because of the feeling that problems of ethnic minorities were similar.
Governor Wike contends that the Benue crises and other issues occurring in the country show that the time to restructure Nigeria has come.
He assured that the relationship between the Tivs and people of Rivers state would continue to flourish, appreciating the Tiv community for their peaceful conduct in his state.
He was quoted saying, “Rivers state is a state of peace, where we accept everybody to stay with us. It is only those that want to rename Rivers state that we dont agree with.”
Earlier, Vice President of Moughzy U Tiv, ESV Caleb Yaghi, had appreciated the governor for the peace and security that Tiv people continued to enjoy in Rivers state, thanking him for being the first governor to come to the aid of Benue people whenever they were in crises.
The vice president then congratulated the governor, for the numerous enduring legacy infrastructural projects he had since assumption been putting in place across Rivers state.
Highlight of the visit was the presentation of a portrait of Wike and traditional Tiv attire, to the governor by the Moughzy U Tiv.
The visit also had the President of Ogbakor ikwerre Asociation, Prof Emenike Wami and members of the delegation.
