The House of Representatives has called on the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to shut down telecommunication services in selected local government areas in Sokoto State to curb increasing levels of insecurity in parts the state.
The House also urged the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to deploy or activate Forward Operating Bases in the affected areas, including Bodinga, Dange-Shuni and Tureta local government areas of the state so as to neutralise the bandits and other criminal elements operating in the region.
The House made the resolution following “a motion of urgent public importance” on the need to stem the tide of spiralling insecurity and avert humanitarian crisis in these areas.
The motion was moved by the member representing Bodinga/Dange-Shuni/Tureta Federal Constituency, Hon Balarabe Kakale.
Kakale pointed out that there had been a deterioration of the security situation in the three aforementioned local government areas within his constituency especially in the last few weeks, saying this had led to the killing of innocent people by bandits in Galma, Dutse, Buolere, and Hausare communities in Wababe district between 1st and 3rd September.
The House also called on the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCRMI) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to support and provide relief materials to the victims and displaced persons.
