ISWAP selects Al Barnawi’s successor, awaits ISIS’s nod

The Shura Council of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has appointed Sani Shuwaram as the new, Wali, the supreme leader of the group.

The new Wali was, at one time, ISWAP’s Governor of Abbaganaram, overseeing the general areas of Kerenoa up to Baga.

He was also the Chief Imam of ISWAP leading several Eid prayers for the terror group.

Shuwaram was said to have become the preferred candidate of Shura among 3 other top members of the jihadist group.

Hailed from Kukawa Local Government of Borno State Shuwaram was raised by mixed parents: Kanuri and Hausa. 

The appointment is however said to be awaiting confirmation of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

The new appointment is coming after the death of  Abu Musab al-Barnawi in October.
