Gunmen known to be recently terrorising the northwestern region of Nigeria have raided Rimi village in Bakura Local Government Area of Zamfara State and abducted over 60 people.

The Zamfara State Commissioner of Information, Ibrahim Dosara, confirmed the unfortunate incidence in an interview with TVC channel.

“We woke up this morning (Friday) with the news of a raid and abduction of 60 people in Rimi village, though the numbers are yet to be officially verified.”

“Security agencies and government officials are working hard to ascertain the real number and casualties involved,” he said.

“Bakura LGA as a whole is a kind of route for the bandits, linking to Dansadau, Birnin Gwari and other areas of Niger state.”

Zamfara is one of the states most affected by banditry in northern Nigeria. Thousands of people have been killed or kidnapped in the past few years by the armed men operating almost unchecked in the state
