JUST IN: Bashir Tofa dies at 74

The National Republican Convention (NRC) presidential candidate in the 1993 elections, Alhaji Bashir Othman Tofa has died aged 74.

 

Born on 20th June, 1947 in Kano, Bashir Tofa is as both a politician and a business man.

 

He was elected a councilor of Dawakin Tofa Local Government in 1977 and in the second republic he was the Kano State secretary of NPN and later the national financial secretary of the party.

 

In business, Bashir Tofa was an oil trader and industrialist.

 

He was the chairman of International Petro-Energy Company (IPEC) and Abba Othman and Sons ltd.

 

He was a board member of Impex Ventures, Century Merchant Bank and General Metal Products ltd.

 

He was a writer, having written books, in Hausa, on philosophy, religion, fiction and travels.

 

Until his death, he is the chairman of Kano Concerned Citizens Initiative, an NGO aimed at economic and social re-engineering of Kano

 

His will be buried later today.
