The Imam of Central Mosque of Nigeria, Professor Ibrahim Makari, has sued Sheikh Abdullahi Gadon kaya for N20m in damages over defamatory statements made against him on the 23rd August, 2021 during the Abduljabbar Kabara’s case.
Gadonkaya alleged in a sermon that Maqari hates the Sunnah of the Prophet (S.A.W) and he shields those who insult the Prophet Muhammad, among others.
The court order showed the case is slated for 6th September 2021, and Maqari is demanding for Gadon Kaya to rescind his statements in his mosque and publish an apology in national dailies.
However, in a statement released by Kamilu Hadi, a source close to Professor Makari, hinted that there is a likelihood of out of court settlement. He said that Maqari’s supporters might yield to pressure from Gadon Kaya’s lawyers, who lobbied intensely and brought in elder statesmen to intercede in the matter. The elders, according to the source, sought reconciliation and asked Professor Makari to withdraw the case.
He therefore advised Sheikh Gadon Kaya to desist from making such statements and to fear God, and to know when to apologize.
