An industrial high court sitting in Abuja has ordered the upward review of judges’ salaries.

The court also granted an order of mandatory injunction for the National Assembly and the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (2nd Defendant), to ensure upward review and continue to ensure yearly or at most, two-years review of salaries of judicial officers.

A senior advocate of Nigeria, Sebastian Hon, earlier filed the suit before the labour court to request that the pay of Nigerian judges be raised.

Adegboyega Awomolo, counsel to the claimant, in his final address submitted that the salaries and allowances of judicial officers remain unchanged since 2008.

The national assembly and the National Judicial Council had tried unsuccessfully to settle the dispute outside of court.
