Staff of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Thursday shut down the headquarters of the agency to protest irregular payment of salaries and planned concessions of some airports by the Federal Government.
The protesting staff were seen holding placards with the inscriptions: “FAAN MGT stop playing with our lives”, “Pay our salaries now”, “stop the concession of our airports”, “Remit pension deductions” and many more.
A protester, who doesn’t want be name, told Sahelian Times that: “we are the only workers of the federal government that are not enjoying our full salaries.”
He said their patience has ran out so they can tolerate no more. They call their action today a warning strike and at the end of one week, they will go on “full” strike.
Official vehicles were seen parked outside the premises of the headquarters as access was denied by the protesters.
The Managing Director, Captain Auwallu Hamisu Yadudu was at the venue of the strike to show solidarity.
The Secretary General, National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Mr. Ocheme Aba, informed protesters that the management has assured the unions it is doing its best to attend to their grievances particularly as it relates to their remuneration.
