The Presidency has confirmed that there was an attempt to burgle the residence of the Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, by armed robbers last night.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, stated this in a two separate tweets on his personal Twitter handle on Monday night.

“The Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari has confirmed that there ‘was a foolish attempt’ to burgle his residence at 3:00am this morning but it turned out to be unsuccessful,” Garba tweeted.

“Professor Gambari, whose house is on a street next to the Villa has assured that there is nothing to worry about from the incident,” Garba added.

A Nigerian online newspaper had earlier reported that there was armed robbery at the Presidential Villa, which involved the residence of Buhari’s Chief of Staff.

The robbers allegedly carted away valuable items and undisclosed amount of money.

It’s not immediately clear how the robbers successfully breached the security layers of the Aso Villa to stage their daredevil operations.

At the time of filing this report, there is no indication that any suspect has been apprehended.

Details later.
