Kano gets 3rd Commissioner of Police in 8 days

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba has posted CP Ahmed Kontagora to lead the command during the Governorship and State Assembly elections in Kano state.

This comes after the cancellation of the deployment of Feleye Olaleye as Kano commissioner of police.

Kontagora will become the 3rd CP posted to the commercial state in the space of 8 days.

On March 8, the IGP reversed the deployment of CP Balarabe Sule, a former chief security officer to the governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, following protests over the officer’s alleged partisanship, and in his place, he deployed Mr Olaleye to marshal the police.

But in a signal released on Monday with reference number TH.5361/FS/FHQ/ABJ/SUB.6/144, the IGP maintains the posting of CP Ita Lazarus Uko-Udom to Kano Central, with DCP Umar Iya serving as his second-in-command.

Mr Alkali also maintained the posting of DCP Abdulkadir El-Jamel to supervise Albasu, Gaya, Rogo, Takai, Ajingi, Garko, Wudil and Sumaila Local Government Areas.

For Rano, Bebeji, Bunkure, Doguwa, Kiru, Kibiya Tudunwada Local Government Areas of Kano South, the IGP maintained the posting of DCP Adamu Ngojin.

The IGP also maintained the posting of DCP Abaniwonda Olufemi to Kano North, with ACP Adamu Sambo serving as his second-in-command.

Also, in the signal, DCP Auwal Musa will maintain his position as DC CID, while DCP Aminu Maiwada is replaced with DCP Nuhu Darma as DC Operations at the Kano command.

CP Magaji Ahmed Kontagora hails from Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State and was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on 3rd March 1990, as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.
