Some legal practitioners in Kano have raised the alarm over an alleged plan to stop a murder case against the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa.

Doguwa, has been remanded in prison after a five-count charge including culpable homicide, criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, mischief by fire, and inciting public disturbance.

Senior Magistrate Ibrahim Mansur Yola remanded him on Wednesday after a court sitting at the Kano Magistrate Court, following his arrest by the Kano State Police Command on Wednesday.

However, in a letter addressed to the Attorney General of the State on Friday, Messrs Abba Hikima Fagge and Badamasi Suleiman Gandu warned about a plan that has been perfected to either enter ‘nolle presequi’ or in the alternative, drop the capital charges against him in a bid to soften the proceeds of his bail before the next general elections on March 11.

The petition also warned the chief legal advocate to remember that as a public servant, his loyalty is purely God Almighty and to the public before his appointer.

They also warned that Doguwa’s case is one that carries immense public interest and outcry as the damage he allegedly inflicted on the people of his constituency is still fresh and people are crying for justice for the victims.

As the heat surrounding the gubernatorial race in Kano intensifies, reports emerged from some quarters that the Kano State Government is set to drop the capital charges against Doguwa, who shall in turn facilitate the deployment of more forces to thwart the opposition NNPP’s chances of winning the race.
