The Kano Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared its intention to participate in rallies in all states of the federation on January 27 to protest the federal government’s plan to end the petrol subsidy.
The Kano NLC chairman, Kabiru Ado Minjibir, announced this at a press conference in the state on Thursday.
“If a petroleum litter costs N340, the N30,000 minimum wage will be meaningless to workers across the country.”
“We have agreed to join the national peaceful protest organized by the NLC leadership in Kano.”
“We will trek from Filin Sukuwa down Racecourse Road to Kano State Government House, where we will present our complaints to the state governor on behalf of the state’s workers.”
Minjibir stated that Congress has already notified relevant security agencies of the peaceful strike.
Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Finance, had announced in November that the subsidy on petrol would be removed and a N5,000 transport grant would be disbursed to the “poorest” Nigerians to cushion the effect.
