Kano Pillars have started their first CAF Confederation campaign with a defeat, as the club lost 3 -1 to Senegalese side, ASC Jaaraf.

Pillars arrived Dakar, the Capital city of Senegal, with a lot of optimism but they succumbed to the superior firing power of the host.

Despite that the hosts dominated the opening proceedings, it was Pillars who drew the first blood in the 12th minute through Ebuka David.

The lead only lasted five minutes, as Jaaraf’s striker, Zaki Bassene, leveled the match in the 17th minute before Samba Diallo put Jaaraf in the driving seat in the 38th minute.

Lumbasse Gulye made it 3 -1 in the 80th minute and all efforts by Pillars to reduce the deficit proved abortive as the game ended.

Pillars need a minimum of two goals with a clean sheet in the second leg to progress into the first round of the competition.

The return leg is slated for next weekend in Nigeria.
