The Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has intercepted a vehicle conveying into the state substances believed to be Cannabis Sativa, popularly called Indian Hemp.
The suspected illegal substance was concealed in Volkswagen Golf car with registration number SMK 904 XV, KAROTA said.
The agency gave the name of the driver of the vehicle, at the time it was intercepted, as Abubakar Aminu, said to be a resident of Sabon Titi Gidan Kankara in Kano State.
The agency said that the driver of the car was arrested at the Temporary Trailers’ Park, Dangwauro along Zaria Road, Kano following credible intelligence that the vehicle was being used to smuggle Cannabis Sativa into the state.
The Managing Director of the Agency, Dr Baffa Babba Dan’agundi, who handed over the confiscated consignment to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Command, on Wednesday, said that his agency’s personnel have been adequately trained to detect and arrest any person or group of persons using highways and roads in Kano State to commit any crime.
He noted that the KAROTA officials were working round the clock to ensure that criminals do not bring into the state any prohibited drugs and other items harzadous to human health and lives.
Dr Dan’agundi, however, called on the general public not to relent in their support for the agency by providing it with credible information that will lead to the arrest of criminals, adding that those who furnished the agency with useful information will always be duly rewarded.
Dan’agundi assured the NDLEA boss of his support and collaboration to ensure synergy in the fight against drug abuse in the state.
On his part, the NDLEA Commander, Isah Likita, applauded the KAROTA for the arrest, saying all hands must be on deck in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.
He said that it was important for people to understand that the fight is a
general one that required that every stakeholder should be involved.
