The Kano governorship candidate of the Labour Party(LP) Bashir. I Bashir, has decided to abandon his gubernatorial ambition to join the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC).

Bashir on January 21 staged a boycott at the party’s presidential rally in Kano alongside the chairman of the Presidential Campaign Council, Mohammed Zarewa; state coordinator of the Obi/Datti campaign, Balarabe Wakili and; a member of the presidential campaign council, Idris Dambazau.

His media aide, Abubakar Cannavaro , who confirmed the defection to Sahelian Times on Sunday, said that the politician along other party chieftains are expected to publicly announce their decision on Tuesday.

He, however, declined to disclose the reason for the defection even though it might not be unconnected to a recent press conference where the candidate and other stakeholders protested the exclusion of major Northern stakeholders in decision making process and lack of clear direction on the interest of the Northern Nigeria by the party.

Pictures of Bashir and his entourage in two meetings with the APC presidential candidate as well as the vice presidential candidate Kashim Shettima have already started circulating online.
