Former Nigeria’s President, Malam Umaru Musa Yar’adua, foresaw the current state of insecurity before his death, says his widow Turai Yar’adua.
Turai in an interview with DW Hausa service said that her late husband was constantly worried that youth in the country could be hijacked to pose security challenges for the country.
“We were sitting with him once, and he held my bag and said one day you wouldn’t be able to hold it and go outside if we don’t engaged these youths,” she said.
Speaking further, Turai disclosed that her husband told her if the youth unemployment was not addressed the rich people in the country could not drive their SUVs safely.
“He also held his clothe and said people would have to stop buying these types of clothes and start buying cheaper ones to avoid being attacked,” she added.
Late Yar’adua died on May 5, 2010, in Saudi Arabia after a long illness.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday described the late President Umaru Yar’Adua as a selfless leader and peacemaker.
Jonathan, on his official Facebook page in commemoration of the 12 years of Yar’Adua’s death, said he was committed to justice, equity and other democratic virtues.
He said: “Twelve years ago, our nation lost a patriot, a selfless leader and a peacemaker who governed with sincerity and passion for the people. President Umaru Musa Yar’ Adua is no longer with us today, but his strides in public life continue to testify for him and keep his memory alive
