A mob at Lugbe, Abuja killed a vigilante group member for allegedly making a blasphemous statement against Prophet Muhammad.

Residents said the man, identified as Small Hundaru, who was also a Muslim, was notorious for committing such blasphemies.

The incident occurred around 1.00 PM at the timber section of the Fruit Market in the Federal Housing Estate, Lugbe, according to reports.

When the mob mobilized, Hundaru was said to have sought refuge at a nearby vigilante office.

However,  the local security outfit was overpowered and the victim was dragged and killed in front of the office before his body was set ablaze.

“The guy is known as Small Hundaru, that was not his first time of insulting the prophet before the action was taken,” said Halilu, a trader at the market.

“He was caught after buying food in the market in the afternoon, because when the blasphemy occurred it was just few people who were there, then a stick was used to hit him in the head. Though he had a gun with him, it was retrieved before the beating,” the source added.
