A concerned group has challenged the legitimacy of Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado to remain as the Chairman of Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC).

The group called “NASARAR GIDAN SARKI” has stated that according to the Kano State Anti-Corruption Commission Law 2008, only a senior civil servant that has integrity and can be trusted, is appointable as the Chairman of the state anti-graft agency. And this is subject to screening by the State House of Assembly.

The group also rhetorically questioned whether Muhuyi has ever worked as a civil servant; thus, demanding that he should tell the public the name of the ministry from where he retired.

“When you were first appointed, did you appear before the State House of Assembly for screening? If you were screened, when did that happen?”, the group’s leader asked.

The group subtly alleged that there was violation of provisions of the commission’s law to pave way for Muhuyi to emerge as its substantive Chairman.

They, therefore, called on the citizens to help them find the answers to these questions, while insisting that if Muhuyi can’t provide the answers, his integrity is questionable.

It will be recalled that, just recently, Muhuyi has started investigating the current Emir of Kano, Alh Aminu Ado Bayero, over sale of lands at Gandun Sarki, Dorayi Karama, in Gwale Local Government Area of the State.

A report by the commission which Muhuyi chairs, indicted the emir in a land deal scandal, where one Yusuf Shuaibu Aliyu was sold 8 hectares of land at N575m (at the Alhaji Ado Bayero Estate), and 14 hectares at a give away price of N200m.

Comrade Kabiru Saidu Dakata, a foremost anti-corruption activist in the state, in an interview with SAHELIAN TIMES, said that, “We are watching the space to also see if Muhuyi Magaji will write to the governor and recommend the suspension of Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero.”
