Niger state Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, has promised to provide guns to groups of vigilantes in order to help curtail the problems of insecurity in the state.

During his surprise visit, the Governor organized a meeting with over 200 members of the vigilante in Kasuwan Garba village in the state, confirming to them that he would help them with guns to fight bandits that are terrorising the state.

Banditry, kidnapping and rustling are becoming day to day activities in Niger state, as seen by the recent attacks in the abduction of students and staff of Government Secondary School Kagara and some travelers. All the victims have been released after series of negotiations with the gunmen.

But some gunmen in Niger and neighboring states damand the vigilante group to drop their arms if the government is serious about the peace accord.
