Contrary to the viral social media report alleging a clandestine plan by Kano state government to sell off the only government-owned children’s home located at the highbrow Nasarawa GRA, an official of the orphanage who prefers anonymity has confirmed to SAHELIAN TIMES that property has not been sold and “there is no plan” to sell it off.
Our reporter, who visited the orphanage to verify the report that went viral on Monday afternoon, has sighted over 30 orphans preparing for Asr prayer.
In an interview with one of the officials in charge of the orphanage, SAHELIAN TIMES learned that earlier today there was an official launching ceremony of a new orphanage, which was donated by a businessman to the state government, in Gaya Local Government Area.
“The new orphanage consists of only two rooms, and only few of the children were selected to witness the launching,” said the official.
He added that, “We still have over 80 orphans in this house, and even the newly opened orphanage in Gaya will be under our control.”
Since the inception of Gov. Ganduje’s administration, there has been heightening fear in Kano over the indiscriminate sales of public properties. Most of the public properties are allegedly sold to cronies of the government to convert them into corner shops.
