The family of Abdullahi Muhammad Bashir, who reportedly poisoned himself last Sunday, deny the report that he killed himself.

SAHELIAN TIMES reported that a 400L student of Federal University Dutse, Jigawa State, had poisoned himself after a misunderstanding with his girlfriend.

But his father said his son was a very decent boy and he never saw him with any girl before his death.

“I was surprised by the news that my son poisoned himself; go and ask around Unguwa Uku, my son is a very decent boy, I never heard or saw anybody who said he saw Abdullahi with a lady” his father Muhammad Bashir told SAHELIAN TIMES

“He was about to finish his exams. Yesterday, I was in the toilet taking my bath when I heard loud noises. When I asked, my wife said I should continue with what I was doing. Afterwards, I was told that they got a call that Abdullahi was sick and they were leaving for Jigawa. I told her if there was need for my presence, she should call me” he continued

He added that it was only yesterday that he asked what happened to the late Abdul and was told that the doctors said he poisoned himself.

“They also told me that he was on oxygen and getting better but the last story I heard was he died and I will never forgive. I will not forgive whoever killed my son” he lamented.

The Vice Chancellor of the university paid him a condolence visit and he promised him that they will investigate the matter.

His mother, in tears, also narrated how she got the story from his friend while she was in the kitchen.

” At around 9 am, I was in the kitchen when my phone rang. It was Abdul’s number but when I picked, it wasn’t his voice. It was his friend telling me that Abdul was sick and at the hospital. They were urging me to come because he was calling my name. She said.

Immediately after the call, she left for Abdul, accompanied by her daughter.

” When we reached the hospital, I saw him on sick bed with oxygen, I said ‘Innalillahi wa’inna ilaihiraji’un’ because its very hard for patient to survive because of that oxygen but the doctors calmed me down and said everything will be fine.

I asked them to refer us to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital but they insisted that they will do everything which Aminu Kano can do and I should not bother. The boy that called me said that he will be leaving for his test but he did not tell me what happened to Abdul. I then asked the doctors what happened to my son they told me that it was likely food poisoning.

I complained that I didn’t harm anybody in this world the doctors said I should not bother my self and they are doing their best to rescue him I should just keep praying, that was what happened and he died at around 5 pm”

She added that his sister also went down unconscious but the doctors asked her to focused on her since she is still alive.

“The doctors said I should give ten thousand Transport fair to take the corpse to Kano, but I don’t know from where the story of he had taken poison came from” she complained.

Also in her part, his sister lamented about those who concocted the story about her brother poisoned himself and said they will never forgive who conceived the story.
