Pandemonium in Sokoto as youths storm Sultan’s palace in protest of his stand on blasphemy

Pandemonium broke out in Sokoto on Saturday as a large number of youths stormed the palace of the Sultan, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, to protest the stance of the Sultanate on the killing of a Sokoto female student accident of blasphemy.

SAHELIAN TIMES reported how angry students lynched a female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, (SSCOE) Sokoto for passing undeserving comments over prophet Muhammad(pbuh).

The sultan issued a statement condemning the killings and called for the arrest of the perpetrators.

At the time of writing this report, armed security operatives are controlling the angry Sokoto residents who attempted to break into the Palace.

The Sultanate council’s positions have sparked debate and discussion among Muslim communities and beyond.

Many have condemned the Sultanate Council’s stance, while others have applauded him.
