Panic as pipeline explosion rocks Lagos on Christmas Eve

There is panic in Egbeda area of Lagos State has pipeline exploded on the early of Friday morning.

The incident occurred on Isale Odo, near LASU/Isheri Road.

No casualties have been confirmed as of the time of this report, but men from the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), security officials, firefighters, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) are on the scene.

According to Channels Television, the explosion was caused by the collapse of an electric pole. According to eyewitnesses, the fire started when an electricity cable collapsed, causing electric sparks to fly around the area.

The sparks were said to have landed on a spilled amount of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in the area, causing the explosion.

According to officials, the explosion poses no danger to the public. Residents of the Igando-Idimu axis, however, are strongly advised to take extreme precautions due to the collapse of high tension poles emanating from the Egbin Hydropower Station.

The line ran from Ikorodu to Ikeja and other neighborhoods. Power distribution companies, particularly Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC), and others are attempting to isolate the 330 line for safety reasons.

Spillage is a common occurrence in the pipeline corridor as a result of vandalism.
