Residents and commuters lost their phones and properties as hundreds of thugs in Kano reportedly stormed Kurna, Ungoggo Local Government Area, in a phone snaching syndicate operation, on Sunday.

The rampaging youths, who were said to be carrying dangerous weapons, took advantage of the regular traffic gridlock along Kurna-Rijiyar Lemo road and stole people’s properties while injuring many others.

The incident happened between 19:30hr and 20:00hr, according to a source who spoke with SAHELIAN TIMES.

“They snatched the phones of the people moving in their cars, pedestrians, and those doing businesses on the roadside.”

A victim of the incident told our reporter that despite having his phone stolen, he had to beg 8 thugs for his life.

“I met a group after group of these thugs and still had to beg them of my life,” he continued.

Kano has a high rate of mobile phone snatching, with many cases resulting in the death of victims who attempted to resist the thugs.

When contacted by our reporter, Kano Police Command’s Spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, stated that they did not receive a complaint about this syndicate operation.
