Senator Ibrahim Abdullahi of Sokoto South has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His defection was announced in a letter read aloud on the Senate floor on Wednesday by Senate President Ahmad Lawan.

In his letter, Abdullahi stated that he defected to the ruling party due to a “crisis.”

However, minority whip and senator from the federal capital territory, Philip Aduda, protested the defection.

According to Aduda, the opposition party is not in crisis, as claimed by the senator from Sokoto.

In response to the minority whip’s remark, Lawan stated that if Abdullahi claims there is a crisis in his district, it is because he is aware of it.

“If someone says in his place, this is the situation and the senator representing FCT would say no, it doesn’t exist, I think we should ask if it is you that know better or him that represents that constituency,” the senate president said.
