The clash between the major PDP presidential contenders in the Northwestern region, Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has locked the supporters of both factions in a fierce battle.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning shortly after the zonal PDP congress was declared open for the delegates to cast their votes at the Kaduna International Trade Fair Complex.

SAHELIAN TIMES reliably gathered that chaos broke out when both Sen Kwankwaso and Gov. Tambuwal arrived at the venue to show their disagreement with the election of the zonal Vice Chairman.

Chairs, tables and ballot boxes were seen in pictures overturned, with both sides apportioning blames to each other. The election ended on a stalemate as the violence escalated.

In an interview with SAHELIAN TIMES, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the former spokesperson of Kano State PDP 2019 gubernatorial candidate, said that the party has agreed to go for consensus, and it was resolved that Kano would have the position of Zonal Vice Chairman.

Sanusi, who blamed Tambuwal for involvement in Kano PDP affairs, said that, “Mohammed Jamo Yusuf, a Kwankwasiya candidate, was on the lead before the supporters of the Sokoto State Governor disrupted the whole process.”

Reacting to the accusation, the faction of Tambuwal said that in his political history he is known to be a law abiding citizen and peace loving personality.

Atiku Sarkin Samarin Yabo, the Sokoto Deputy Youth Leader of People’s Democratic Party, in an interview, said that they are disgraced by the actions of former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

He accused Kwankwaso of training his followers to be disrespectful to whoever did not align with their ideology.

“Out of the 197 delegates that were in Kaduna, all of them were forewarned by Tambuwal, and none of them was involved in the crisis.”

“Kwankwaso should know that Aminu Waziri Tambuwal is too big to be involved in Kano politics,” he said.

He alleged that kwankwasiyya Supporters arrived at the scene with different tags immediately the voting started and disrupted the process.

Kwankwaso had earlier accused Tambuwal of meddling with the affairs of PDP in Kano State.

He alleged that Tambuwal’s interest in the upcoming 2023 election pushed him into buying a nomination form for Senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo from a PDP faction in Kano State.

Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, while reacting to the accusation, has denied having anything to do with the political crisis in Kano chapter of the party.

He noted that the national leadership of the party has given each and every member the right to pick a nomination form for himself.
