The police in Kano have arrested 156 suspected criminals in the state for various criminal offences ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, cattle rustling, car theft, fraud, thuggery, drug abuse, amongst others.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Sama’ila Shuaibu Dikko, on Friday, announced that amongst the 156 suspected criminals arrested, 18 were armed robbery suspects; eight for kidnapping; 10 for cattle rustling; seven for drug dealings; and 13 were suspected motor vehicle thieves.
He added that five were suspected fraudsters while 99 were suspected thugs in the state.
In their rapid response to distress calls, the CP said the police have also rescued 14 kidnapping victims as well as made some recoveries.
“We have recovered 10 rifles; 16 motor vehicles; 16 tricycles, motorcycles, five cows, 76 knives, 34 mobile handsets, five packets of Air conditions, and 26 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp valued over 2 million naira,” he said.
Among the suspects is a 24 years old cocaine dealer, Benjamin Oguchukwu, of Badawa Layout in Kano, who was reportedly arrested by a team of police with one pinch of cocaine substance.
He confessed that he sold more than 1kg every day.
Similarly, a team of policemen, led by SP Ibrahim U. Hamma, Gani Division, arrested one Magaji Adamu, a suspected kidnapper, who threatened to kidnap someone from Gidan Doka Village, Sumaila LGA if 2 million naira is not paid to him.
The suspect confessed to the crime and the mobile phone that was used in committing the crime was also recovered.
CP Dikko noted that the command had sustained raids of criminal hideouts and black spots, incorporate stratified community policing engagement, rapid response to distress calls and massive campaigns against Drug Abuse and thuggery in the state
