Police arrest 6 for using gay date app to defraud victims

The Nassarawa State Police Command has arrested six suspects for allegedly using dating application to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

The police in a statement said that the suspects criminally planned their scheme and used a popular gay dating app to set up dates with unsuspecting people from all over the nation, luring them to their hideout, and holding them hostage to take their possessions while threatening them with lethal weapons.

In the statement signed by DSP Ramhan Nansel, the police added that the victims are assaulted and forced to reveal their ATM Pin and their bank accounts is then wiped out before they are released.

“Consequently, the sum of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N150,000) which they collected from one of their victims who came in from Imo State on 30/7/2022 was recovered from the suspects as exhibit.

“The suspects confessed to have, so far, lured 8 victims via same mode of operation and have made One Million, Three Hundred and Sixty Thousand Naira (proceed of crime) from their victims at different time,”the statement reads. 

The suspects are identified as  Sunday Michael, Luka Musa, Joy Sunday, Elijah Ishaya, Agada Sandra, and Abdulrahman Tijani.
