Anambra State Police Command has announced the arrest of some of its men for allegedly extorting the sum of N500,000 from a citizen.

The state’s command spokesperson, Ikenga Tochukwu, made the disclosure. Tochukwu said that the Commissioner of Police, Monday Kuryas, expressed zero-tolerance for extortion in the command.

He added that “The Commissioner of Police, Monday Kuryas, has expressed total aversion to unprofessionalism and other extortionist tendencies among some police personnel in the command.

“The CP made this known following a petition alleging the extortion of the sum of N500,000 from a citizen by some men of the command.
“Investigations ordered by the CP into the case led to the swift identification and arrest of the personnel involved.
“The sum of N500,000 extorted from the victim was recovered intact and returned to him and the officers charged with misconduct in line with extant disciplinary procedures of the force.

“While restating his resolve to stamp out extortionist tendencies among personnel of the command, the CP urges citizens to report any misconduct whatsoever by the personnel of the command to him through the ‘X’ Squad or the Public Complaints Bureau.”
